WING FOIL

At Bananaway, you’ll find all the gear you need for wing foiling.

If you’re choosing your first wing, go for a size of 4 m² or 5 m², which will cover winds between 12 knots and 25 knots (depending on your weight) – this will be suitable for most conditions you’ll encounter as a beginner.

A beginner’s wing foil board should have between 100L and 160L, and as you gain experience, you can go for a smaller size. As a rule, wing foil boards are chosen with the formula: your weight + 10L, but highly experienced wing foilers may choose much smaller boards.

Inflatable wing foil boards are more durable, while solid wing foil boards glide better on the water, take off more smoothly due to their shape, but need to be protected from impacts.

A hydrofoil for a beginner should have a front wing size between 1750 and 2000 and a mast height between 60 and 90 cm. As you gain experience, the size and shape of the front wings will change depending on whether you want more speed, better glide, increased maneuverability, or to ride waves.

In the Bananaway store, you’ll find premium brands – Axis Foils, Duotone Wing, Eleveight Wing, and on the other side, more affordable gear from brands like Gladiator and Sroka, offering excellent entry points into the world of wing foiling.

Choosing the most suitable wing foil equipment is not easy, so we’re happy to offer advice.

1. WHAT IS WING FOIL?

Wing foiling is a dynamic water sport that combines elements of kitesurfing, windsurfing, and foiling. In practice, it involves holding a wing in your hands while using a hydrofoil to lift above the water, standing on a wing board.

2. WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED FOR WING FOIL?

2.1 Wing

The wing is the most essential piece of equipment, resembling a kite. You hold the wing in your hands and harness the wind's energy to glide across the sea, waves, oceans, large lakes, and rivers.

2.2 Wing Board

A wing board is a larger, solid, or inflatable board to which you attach a hydrofoil.

2.3 Hydrofoil

The hydrofoil enables you to fly above the water's surface with the board.

2.4 Additional Wing Foil Equipment

Having the right equipment is key to an amazing wing foiling experience. Here are some must-have accessories that will enhance your time on the water.

Leash for the Wing Board
We recommend a waist wing leash, which you attach around your waist instead of your ankle.

A waist leash is more comfortable and less restrictive compared to an ankle leash, allowing for easier movement while wing foiling.

Boom for the Wing
A boom is an excellent addition for beginners.

Wings with a boom are easier to handle because they allow you to grip the wing anywhere.
A boom enables one-handed control, meaning you don’t have to completely let go when adjusting your grip.

Double Fin for SUP – "Drift Stopper"
If you're using a SUP instead of a foil board, drift stoppers help prevent downwind drifting so you can better resist the wind.

The Duotone Irig double fin is designed for windsurfing or winging on a SUP that does not have a built-in daggerboard or large central fin.
Since most SUP boards (except windSUPs) lack a daggerboard, it's difficult to maintain upwind direction when sailing with a wing or sail.

Wind Meter
How do you know when it’s the perfect time for an adventure? A wind meter is your trusted companion!

A wind meter is an essential wing foiling accessory, as it accurately measures wind strength to ensure you are never caught unprepared.
